Welcome to the home of Be A Champion, Inc.
BE A CHAMPION, INC. was founded in 2001 as a way of reaching out to underprivileged youth in the Houston area through sports, recreation, education, and motivational speaking. Jaron Barganier got the idea when he was sitting at the table with his mother. A commercial for United Way came on with Shaquille O’Neal. Barganier was inspired by O’Neal’s humility. “Shaq had always been my role model because he stays out of trouble; you can tell he’s humble…” Barganier called his teammate, James Hong, and together they formed the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Barganier and Hong both played on the offensive line for University of Houston football, and felt that athletes should be positive role models for young people.
